Every day we brush our teeth morning and night, brush our hair, wash our face and hands and many other routine steps to keep ourselves and our environment clean so that it is easier to maintain our physical and mental health.

Personally, it is imperative for me to take similar steps to keep my energy clear.

Admittedly, I am not as “routine” day to day as some people are. My daily schedule varies depending on appointments and if I am the kid chauffeur that day or not, and what groups I am meeting with, and other activities. Regardless, I have three energetic hygiene steps I follow through the day: one for the morning, one for the afternoon and one at night.

“Good morning body, I love you!”

Most mornings I start the day awake but relaxed in bed, setting my intention for the day.  I greet my body and express gratitude for all that it does each day, keeping me alive and all the ways it provides me joy through sounds, smells, movement, and sight. With my eyes open, I notice how my body is feeling, and I send love by placing my hand on any area that is feeling tired or cranky.  I do this in about 5 minutes, every day before getting out of bed. This is a very easy thing to try and has immense benefit.

Start the day with a quick visualization

Preferably immediately after greeting and appreciating my body, but at least somewhere in the morning, I do a 10-15 minute self-guided visualization of what I want to experience, how I want to feel, and what I want to accomplish.

I personally do this by closing my eyes and painting on a mental canvas, choosing colors to match the feelings. This is not a rigid process where color means something, it is the reverse, where I feel the feeling and then look for or choose a color that matches it.

Most days it is a canvas of swirling colors on my mental screen, on rare days I paint an image. When I am done the painting, I say a prayer and give my painting to the universe. During that process, I  request help in co-creating, “Please, help my painting become manifest.”

Shhhh, quiet now.

Our minds are amazingly creative and always busy.  Do you feel like you have a giant hamster wheel up there? I used to really struggle with never being able to quiet my mind. I found a few ways to break that wheel.

In the afternoon, after my kids are home from school, we have daily tidy-up chores.  While unloading the dishwasher, or rinsing plates off, or dusting I take those moments to clear my mind, letting it rest and become clear, no random thoughts chasing about.

If a thought comes I simply imagine rinsing it down the drain or wiping it up with my dust cloth or vacuuming it out.

Twice a week it is my dog walking day. When walking I force myself to focus only on what I can see around me, the flowers, the trees, the cars, sounds, and smells. Anything that is not observation, I tell “no. not now. I’m enjoying this walk.”  This helps me avoid the hamster wheel of anxiety and endless thought chasing.

Rinse it out

I prefer to shower in the evening, after dinner but before bed. While showering I do an energetic rinse, imagining the water turning each color of the rainbow.

As it turns colors it collects all the energy of those hues and rinses them out of my aura, out of my hair and off my skin.

When I dry off and put on lotion, I infuse the lotion with sparkly colors that I like at that moment, replenishing my aura and healing my skin.

On non-shower days, or if I have to shower in the morning, I simply take time after dinner to close my eyes and imagine a light shower rinsing colors out of my aura until it is literally clear and then filling in with sparkly colors or stars or sunlight.

Am I perfect and do all of these every day without fail? No. As much as I try, I do occasionally miss one or more of these. However, they are part of my routine. Just like discovering I have stinky armpits, I notice when my energy gets mucked up; and I notice how good it feels to get clean. What ways can you find time to clear your mind, and refresh your energy?
